RICHMOND, Va. -- The University of Delaware men’s basketball team will be the ninth seed in the 2009 Colonial Athletic Association Tournament and will face eighth-seeded Georgia State Friday at 12 noon in the first round.
The Blue Hens went 13-18 during the regular season and finished in ninth place in the league standings with a 6-12 conference mark. The Panthers finished 11-19 overall and placed eighth in the league with an 8-10 conference record.
Other first round games on Friday feature No. 5 seed Hofstra facing No. 12 seed UNC Wilmington at 2:30 p.m., No. 7 seed James Madison taking on No. 10 seed William & Mary at 6 p.m., and No. 6 seed Drexel facing No. 11 seed Towson at 8:30 p.m.
The winner of the Delaware-Georgia State game will take on top-seeded VCU Saturday at 12 noon in the quarterfinals, while No. 4 seed Old Dominion will face the winner of the Hofstra-UNC Wilmington game at 2:30 p.m. No. 2 seed George Mason will face the winner of the James Madison-William & Mary game at 6 p.m., and No. 3 seed Northeastern will take on the winner of the Drexel-Towson game at 8:30 p.m.
The tournament semifinals will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., with the final on Monday at 7 p.m. All games will be held at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va.
Friday’s first round games will be webstreamed on www.caasports.com. The four Saturday quarterfinal contests and both semifinal games on Sunday will be televised by The Comcast Network, while the championship game on Monday will be televised by ESPN2.
Delaware and Georgia State split their two regular season games this season, with each team winning on its home floor. The Blue Hens posted a 60-48 victory at the Bob Carpenter Center on January 24, while the Panthers recorded a 70-67 win at the GSU Sports Arena on February 7. Friday’s game will be the first ever postseason meeting between Delaware and Georgia State.
