RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware sophomore guard Jawan Carter was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Blue Hens to a pair of victories, the league announced Monday.
Carter scored a game-high 23 points, all but two in the second half, while adding three assists and two steals during Tuesday’s 75-66 victory at Hampton. Carter went 7 of 12 from the field including 4 of 6 from three-point range, and was also 5 of 5 from the foul line as UD snapped a four-game losing streak.
Carter, a Chester, Pa. native who attended Delaware’s Tatnall School, again led all scorers by pouring in 23 points to lead the Blue Hens over Ohio University, 75-66, Saturday afternoon. Carter also dished out a career-best six assists and recording three steals, and went 8 of 14 from the field.
For the week Carter led the Blue Hens with 23.0 points per game, nine assists, five steals, 15 field goals, and seven three-pointers. He shot 57.5 percent from the field (15 of 26), shot 53.8 percent from three-point range (7 of 13), and hit all nine of his free throw attempts.
Carter, who leads the team and ranks fifth in the CAA by averaging 18.6 points per game, has reached double digits in each of the last nine games and has eclipsed the 20-point mark in three straight contests. He also ranks fourth in the league with 2.0 steals per game, sixth with 34.9 minutes played per game, 10th with a 35.8 three-point field goal percentage, 10th with 2.4 three-pointers made per game, and 13th with a 73.7 free throw percentage.
Carter and the Blue Hens return to action on Sunday with a 12 noon game at Boston University that will be televised by CN8.
