NEWARK, Del. -- Jawan Carter (top right) and Marc Egerson (bottom right) combined for 44 points and the University of Delaware pulled away with a pivotal 18-4 run midway through the second half on the way to a 75-66 non-league men's basketball victory over Ohio University Saturday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The Blue Hens (4-6), who won for the second straight game by an identical score, captured their first home win in four tries this season thanks to an impressive outside shooting display. The Blue Hens defeated Hampton 75-66 Tuesday night on the road in their previous outing.

Carter, a first-year transfer from Saint Joseph’s, posted his third straight 20-point effort with 23 points and dished out a game-high six assists, Egerson posted his sixth double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Alphonso Dawson netted 15 points to fuel the Blue Hens. Carter, Egerson, and Dawson each hit three three-pointers as the Hens went 10 of 24 from beyond the three-point arc.

Egerson, the CAA’s leading rebounder, pulled 10 rebounds off the defensive glass and connected on 7 of 14 shots from the field while Carter knocked down 8 of 14 shots from the field. Carter, who also netted 23 points in the win over Hampton, has now hit for 20 or more points in half of the Blue Hens’ 10 games this season and is averaging a team-best 18.6 points per game.

"It was a big game, especially with a week off for finals coming up. Ohio University is a very good team and we are excited about the way we played defense. We did a really good job holding down their field goal percentage in the second half."

Ohio University (4-5), which defeated the Hens 78-59 last season in Athens, Ohio in the first-ever meeting between the two schools, dropped its second straight despite 15 points each from forwards DeVaughn Washington and Justin Orr. Washington posted his first career double-double with career-highs of 15 points, on 7 of 11 shooting from the field, and 13 rebounds.

The Bobcats' leading scorer and rebounder, forward Jerome Tillman, got in foul trouble early and was held to just 10 points and six rebounds, well below his averages of 20.1 points and 10.4 rebounds per game entering the contest. In addition, the Bobcats managed to hit just 41.3 percent of their shots from the field (26 of 63), including just 4 of 16 shooting from beyond the three-point arc.

A hard-fought first half featured seven ties with the biggest lead being a 18-13 Blue Hen advantage with 12:43 left to play. The Bobcats built their biggest first half lead at 34-31 with 1:06 left after two free throws each by Michael Allen and Orr, but the Hens took the lead at intermission at 36-34 as Dawson knocked down a three-pointer with 44 seconds left and Edwin Santiago converted a his own steal into a layup with 16 seconds remaining. Santiago then blocked a jumper by Allen just before the buzzer.

Delaware remained in front the entire second half, upping its lead to 45-36 on a Carter three-pointer less than four minutes into the stanza. Ohio University battled back and cut the Delaware lead to 47-43 on a layup by Tillman with 14:06 left, but the Hens answered with a pivotal 18-4 run over the next 5:30 to take a 65-47 lead with 8:36 remaining. The Bobcats never caught up and trailed by double-digits until the final minute of play.

Each of the Hens’ five starters scored a field goal during the run with Carter leading the way with seven points, two assists, and two steals during the key span.
