RICHMOND, Va. -- The University of Delaware men’s basketball team will be the No. 12 seed in the 2010 Colonial Athletic Association Tournament and will face fifth-seeded VCU Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the first round.
The Blue Hens went 7-23 during the regular season and finished in 12th place in the league standings with a 3-15 conference mark. The Rams finished 20-8 overall and fifth in the league with an 11-7 conference record.
Other first round games on Friday feature No. 8 seed Towson facing No. 9 seed UNC Wilmington at 12 noon, No. 7 seed Hofstra taking on No. 10 seed Georgia State at 6 p.m., and No. 6 seed Drexel facing No. 11 seed James Madison at 8:30 p.m.
The winner of the Towson-UNC Wilmington game will take on top-seeded Old Dominion Saturday at 12 noon in the quarterfinals, while No. 4 seed George Mason will face the winner of the VCU-Delaware game at 2:30 p.m. No. 2 seed Northeastern will face the winner of the Hofstra-Georgia State game at 6 p.m., and No. 3 seed William & Mary will take on the winner of the Drexel-James Madison game at 8:30 p.m.
The tournament semifinals will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., with the final on Monday at 7 p.m. All games will be held at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va.
Friday’s first round games will be webstreamed on www.caasports.com. The four Saturday quarterfinal contests and both semifinal games on Sunday will be televised by The Comcast Network, while the championship game on Monday will be televised by ESPN.
VCU posted a 77-64 victory over Delaware on January 9 at the Siegel Center in the teams’ only regular season meeting this season. The Rams and Blue Hens have met once previously in the postseason, as VCU recorded a 74-61 triumph over Delaware in the 2005 CAA Tournament Quarterfinals.
