NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware's Jawan Carter (at right) dropped in 30 points, but Northeastern held the rest of the Blue Hen lineup in check and posted an easy 67-51 Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball win Tuesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

All-CAA guard Matt Janning scored 15 of his team-high 17 points in the first half, Chaisson Allen added 15 points, and Manny Adako chipped in with 10 more as Northeastern (15-8, 10-2 CAA) stayed hot by winning its second straight and 13th in the last 14 games.

The Huskies, who won 11 straight games earlier this season and were coming off a big 74-64 win over league-leading Old Dominion Saturday, shot 50 percent from the field for the game (22 of 44), including 52 percent in the second half (10 of 19) to pull away. Northeastern committed just 10 turnovers, knocked down 8 of 15 three-pointers, and was 15 of 19 from the foul line in the complete effort.

Carter sank six three-pointers and finished with 30 points for his fourth straight 20-plus effort, but no other Blue Hen player managed to score more than five points as Delaware (6-17, 2-10) fell for the third straight game and for the ninth time in the last 10 outings.

Carter, a junior guard, reached the 30-point plateau for the second time this season and for the third time in his career and became the first UD player to score 20 or more points in four straight games since Harding Nana accomplished the feat in five straight games in December, 2005.

Carter connected on 8 of 15 shots, but the rest of the UD lineup was just 7 for 35 and Alphonso Dawson’s five points was the next highest point total for the Hens.

“It was a valiant effort by Jawan tonight,” said Delaware head coach Monté Ross. “But as a team, we struggled to score and you have to credit their defense. Their zone pushed out our offense a bit and their length bothered us inside. We contested a lot of their shots, but they knocked them down so give them credit.”

Northeastern, which also got a game-high 12 rebounds and nine points from Nkem Ojougboh, continued its mastery of Delaware as the Huskies downed the Hens for the 11th straight time, including its fifth straight at the Bob Carpenter Center. Northeastern had edged the Hens 59-55 in Boston back on Jan. 13.

The Huskies led from wire to wire as they scored the first eight points of the game over the first three minutes and never looked back. Carter, who scored the Hens’ first 12 points, hit a three-pointer with 13:47 left in the opening half to cut the lead to 11-9 and Adam Pegg hit two free throws with 5:37 left to narrow the deficit to 19-16, but Delaware could never grab the lead.

Northeastern took a 32-21 lead into intermission and never let the lead slip below double digits the entire second half.

The closest the Hens would get the rest of the night was within 10 points at 43-33 with 14:00 remaining on a layup by Hakim McCullar, but NU’s Baptiste Bataille responded with consecutive three-point jumpers to push the lead back to 16. The Huskies increased the lead to as many as 21 points at 60-39 with 4:08 left to play.

Northeastern, which entered the game leading the CAA in scoring defense at just 55.7 points per game, has not allowed a league opponent to score more than 64 points in any game this season.

Delaware will look to return to the win column Saturday, Feb. 6 at 12 noon when the Hens host UNC Wilmington.
