NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware men’s basketball head coach Monté Ross announced Monday that Stephen Stewart, who served the previous four seasons as an assistant coach on the Blue Hen staff, has resigned.
“I have accepted Stephen’s resignation and wish him nothing but the best in the future,” said Ross. “We are currently in the process of finding a replacement and hope to have someone on board as quickly as possible. We thank Stephen for all his contributions to our program.”
Stewart, a native of Philadelphia, arrived in Newark along with Ross prior to the 2006-2007 season.
Stewart, who earned his degree from Coppin State in 2002, began his coaching career by serving as an assistant coach at his alma mater from 2001-03. He then coached at the University at Albany in 2003-04 and served on the staff at La Salle before spending one year at Loyola University in Maryland in 2005-06.
A standout player at Coppin State from 1991-95, Stewart earned All-American honors three times for the Eagles as he led CSU to the NCAA Tournament in 1993 and to the National Invitation Tournament in 1995.
