Junior guard John Gordon and sophomore guard Greg Miller each scored career highs and shared 10 of the University of Delaware's school record 12 three-pointers as the Blue Hens defeated Delaware State 87-74 in a non-league men's basketball game Wednesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center. Gordon, a transfer from Maine, connected on five three-pointers and hit for 21 points and Miller and Mike Pegues each scored 19 points as the Blue Hens (2-0) downed their in-state rival for the sixth straight time. In the process, the Hens won their record 11th straight home game at the BCC. The home opener was played before a sellout crowd of 5,000. Stefan Malliet led Delaware State (0-1) with 19 points while Terence Hood scored 17, including his 1,000th career point, and Brian Butler added 16 points. The Blue Hens, the defending America East champions, jumped out to a 38-25 halftime lead but the Hornets came out in a flurry in the second half, outscoring Delaware 24-10 to take their only lead at 49-48 with 13:52 left to play. But Delaware regained control immediately as Miller and Gordon combined for five three-pointers in the next four minutes to put the Hens up for good at 67-55 with 9:38 left to play.
