Delaware took charge after halftime, riding the
hot-shooting Mike Pegues on the way to the easy road
victory in Washington.
Pegues, who hit on 12 of 16 field goals and 10 of 11 free
throws and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, scored 28 of
his season and career-high tying 34 points and the Blue Hens
shot 69 percent from the field in the second half (18 of 26)
and 62 percent for the game (33-53) on the way to the
win.
The win upped Delaware's record to 4-0, the best for a
Blue Hen team since the 1991-92 NCAA Tournament squad
started out 4-0 on the way to a 27-4 mark.
Tyrone Perry hit for 17 points and dished out five
assists, Kestutis Marciulionis had his second
straight big game off the bench with 13 points, and Greg
Miller chipped in with 11 points to lead the way.
Howard (0-4) got 24 points from forward Melvin Watson and
18 points and nine assists from point guard Ali Abdullah.
Delaware took a 40-37 halftime lead but poured it on in
the second stanza, using an 11-3 run midway through the half
to go up 68-52 with 12 minutes left. The Hens hit on 10 of
21 three-pointers, one shy of the school record 11 set the
previous week vs. Delaware State
