Delaware Big Effort Downs Hartford 91-75 in Men's Hoops

NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware celebrated Senior Night in high fashion as John Gordon led four scorers in double figures with 25 points and the Blue Hens cruised to a 91-75 America East men's basketball victory over Hartford Monday night.

The Hens (20-5, 13-3 America East), who started their five seniors, including reserves Tobias Mullen, Fred Gonzalez, and Mohamed Niang, won their eighth straight game to clinch the fourth 20-win season in school history. Hartford (9-15, 7-9) got 18 points from guard Justin Bailey and 13 points and a career-high 14 rebounds from center Chris Eames. Guard Darrick Jackson added 17 points, including three three-pointers.

The red-hot Gordon, who entered the game having hit on 18 of his last 24 three-pointers, had his fourth straight 20-point effort as he connected on 5 of 9 three-pointers for a game-high 25 points. Junior forward Mike Pegues added 17 points, junior guard Kestutis Marciulionis chipped in with 15 points, and senior center John Bennett added 11 points, 11 rebounds, and six blocks.

The Hens, who have shot better than 50 percent from the field in three straight games and have won five straight by 16 or more points, tied a school record with 12 blocks on the night.

The game was close early until the Hens broke away midway through the first half, breaking a 13-13 tie with a 14-2 run to take control. The Hens built the lead to as much as 29 points in the second half, going up 85-56 with 6:06 left to play. Hartford outscored the Hens 19-6 in the final six minutes.
