HEMPSTEAD, NY -- Hofstra
guard Craig Claxton followed up a miss at the buzzer to lead
the Flying Dutchmen to a 78-76 win over Delaware in America
East play Tuesday night at the Hofstra Physical Fitness
Center.
Delaware forward Mike Pegues
led the Blue Hens with 29 points and it was his
three-pointer with eight seconds left that tied the score at
76-76, the fifth tie of the second half.
Hofstra (13-6, 6-2) got 20 points
each from Norman Richardson and Duane Posey while Claxton
added 18 points and seven assists and Roberto Gittens had 12
points.
After Pegues' three-pointer, his
first attempt of the year, Hofstra came down and had Posey
take a short baseline jumper for the win. Posey missed, but
Claxton was there for the rebound and tipped in the winning
basket.
John Gordon added 16 points
for the Blue Hens (12-4, 5-2) while Tyrone Perry
added 11 points.
The Blue Hens were playing their
second straight game without junior backup guard Kestutis
Marciulionis. Marciulionis, Delaware's third leading
scorer, is sitting while the NCAA investigates a situation
in which he played for a professional team in his native
Lithuania in 1993 at the age of 17.
