NEWARK, DE - University of Delaware junior John Gordon continued his hot shooting, burying a school record tying seven three-pointers and finishing with a season-high 29 points as the Blue Hens cruised to an 83-60 America East men's basketball victory over Hofstra Wednesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Gordon, a junior transfer from Maine, hit on 8 off 11 shots from the field, including 7 of 9 from three-point line, as the Blue Hens (18-5, 11-3) won their sixth straight game and took over sole possession of second place in the league standings ahead of the Dutchmen. Hofstra (18-7, 11-4) had a five-game win streak snapped despite 15 points and 11 rebounds from sophomore forward Roberto Gittens.

Gordon, who connected on 6 of 8 three-pointers for 20 points in Sunday's 73-56 win over Towson, continued the streaky shooting, nailing five of six treys in the opening half as the Hens built a 36-19 lead at intermission. Gordon, who scored 34 points as a freshman at Maine in 1995-96, surpassed his previous Delaware career-high of 21 points. His seven three-pointers tied a school record set three other times.

Delaware senior guard Tyrone Perry also led the Blue Hen backcourt assault as he scored a season-high 18 points and dished out six assists. Kestutis Marciulionis added 12 for the Hens, who shot 60.4 percent from the field (29 of 48) and were 11 of 22 from the three-point line.

Gordon and Perry also did the job defensively, holding Hofstra guard Craig Claxton, the 1998 America East Player of the Year, to just 11 points and two assists before fouling out with 2:38 left to play. The Flying Dutchmen shot just 31 percent from the field.

Delaware jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back as they led from start to finish. The Hens led 36-19 at halftime and were up by as much ast 30 points at 70-40 with 7:22 left to play.
