TOWSON, MD -- Mike Pegues scored 24 points and John Gordon hit for 20 points, including 6 of 8 from the three-point line, as the University of Delaware took control late in the first half and moved on for the 73-56 America East men's basketball rout over Towson Sunday afternoon at the Towson Center.

The Blue Hens (17-5, 10-3 America East), playing for the first time in a week, won their fifth straight game while the Tigers (5-16, 4-9) lost their fourth straight. The Hens completed the season sweep over Towson, having downed the Tigers 70-60 at Delaware in early January.

Pegues, a 6-5 junior forward who entered the game as the nation's No. 8 leading scorer at 22.9 ppg, hit on 9 of 20 shots from the field for a game-high 24 points and pulled five rebounds. Gordon dished out six assists and hit on 6 of 9 from the field, including 6 of 8 from the three-point line, for his 20 points. Gordon's 20 points was one shy of his Delaware career-high and his six three-pointers was just one shy of the Delaware single game record of seven.

The Hens, who hit on nine three-pointers for the game, also got eight points each from Madou Diouf and Tyrone Perry.

Forward Brian Barber led Towson with 13 points while Marlin Wise added 11 points and eight assists. The Hens held down high-scoring Towson guard Pete Mauro to just five first half points. Mauro, who scored 20 points in the first meeting with Delaware, managed just two shots from the field in the second half.

Towson led 24-21 with seven minutes left in the first half before the Blue Hens ended the half with a 14-2 run to go up 35-26 at the break. Gordon hit two three-pointers in the run to pace Delaware. The Hens then opened the second half on a 6-3 run and led by at least eight points the rest of the way.
