Delaware 67, New Hampshire
41
January 24, 1999
NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware held New
Hampshire without a field goal for over 13 minutes and used
a 17-0 run between the first and second half to post a 67-41
America East men's basketball victory Sunday at the Bob
Carpenter Center.
Delaware (13-5, 6-3), which won at home for the 15th time
in the last 16 home, got 14 points from junior forward
Mike Pegues while junior guard Kestutis
Marciulionis came off the bench to add 13 points and
junior guard John Gordon chipped in with 12 points.
New Hampshire's 41 points were the lowest allowed by the
Blue Hens in a league game since joining the conference in
1991-92.
Delaware, which had a 15-game home win streak snapped in
Friday's 70-59 loss to Maine, countered 39 percent shooting
(23 of 59) with a season-low 10 turnovers to down UNH.
Sophomore forward Ethan Cole scored 10 points and had
eight rebounds to lead New Hampshire (3-14, 1-8), which lost
for the 14th time in the last 15 games. The Wildcats
committed 24 turnovers and shot just 27 percent from the
field (15 of 56) for the game. Junior guard Carmen
Maciariello added nine points for the Wildcats.
New Hampshire took a 16-15 lead on a Cole layup with 6:34
left to play in the first half, but that would be the last
lead the Wildcats would enjoy. The Blue Hens closed the half
on a 10-0 run and opened the second half with a 16-1 spurt
to put the game away.
After Cole's basket with 6:34 left in the opening half,
New Hampshire didn't hit another field goal until
Maciariello scored a basket with 13:18 left to play, ending
a drought than consumed 13 minutes and 16 seconds.
New Hampshire is now 0-11 vs. Delaware in Newark and 0-10
in all games at the Bob Carpenter Center, the site of the
America East Tournament.
