DURHAM, NH -- The University of Delaware men's
basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a second
half barrage as the Blue Hens defeated New Hampshire 96-72
in an America East game Saturday night at the Whittemore
Center.
Forward Mike Pegues hit for 29 points and guard
John Gordon added 26 points as the Blue Hens (22-5,
15-3 America East) won their 10th straight game. The Hens
hit on 60 percent of their shots from the field in the
second half (18 of 30) and finished over 50 percent for the
game for the fourth straight outing (34 of 66 for .515). The

each added 12 rebounds for the Hens.
The Hens' 10-game win streak is the second longest in
school history and the longest since a school record 20-game
streak in 1991-92. The Hens also set a school record for
conference wins in a season (1991-92 team went 14-0) and
tied for the second most wins in a season in school
history.
Delaware has clinched the No. 2 seed in the America East
Tournament which begins Feb. 26 and can be the No. 1 seed
for the second straight year if Hofstra defeats Drexel
Sunday in those teams' final regular season game.
New Hampshire (4-22, 2-16), which will be the No. 10 seed
in the tournament, lost for the 10th time in the last 11
games despite 18 points from freshman guard Wil Chavis and
12 points from guard Andy Cavo.
Delaware took a 42-36 halftime lead and ran away with
the game in the second half. New Hampshire cut the lead to
58-54 with 11:10 left, but the Hens went on a 15-2 run to go
up 73-56 with 6:56 left.
