Gordon, Pegues Lead Delaware Over Vermont, 80-62

 

NEWARK, DE -- Junior guard John Gordon continued his hot outside shooting with 22 points, including five three-pointers, and Mike Pegues chipped in with 21 points as the University of Delaware extended its win streak to seven games with an 80-62 America East men's basketball victory over Vermont Saturday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The Blue Hens, who have won each of their last four games by at least 17 points, shot 50 percent from the field for the second straight game to improve to 19-5, 12-3 America East. Vermont, which fell to 0-10 all-time at the Bob Carpenter Center, including an 0-7 mark vs. Delaware, fell to 9-14, 5-10.

Vermont, which has never shot better than 35 percent in the building, hit on 33 percent (23 of 69). Tobe Carberry led the Catamounts with 12 points and Tony Orciari added 11 but the two combined to hit just 8 of 30 shots from the field.

Vermont took a 42-40 lead after a sluggish first half, but it was all Delaware after that. The Hens opened the second half on a 21-4 run to go up 13:07 left. The Hens hit five straight three-pointers during the run, including three by Gordon and two by Kestutis Marciulionis (17 points). ]

The Hens hit on 10 of 21 three-pointers for the game with Gordon hitting on five of seven. Gordon has now connected on 18 of 24 three-pointers over the last three games.
