America East Cross Country
Championships

Delaware Places Fourth Overall;
DiGennaro 7th Individually
MANCHESTER, CT -- Both the University
of Delaware men's and women's cross country squads captured
fourth place finishes at the America East Cross Country
Championships Sunday at Wickham Park.
New Hampshire dominated the men's meet,
taking the top five individual finishes, including champion
Matthew Schadow (25:23.4), to post a meet record 15 points.
Boston University (55) was second followed by Maine (92) and
Delaware (105) in the nine-team in meet.
In the women's race, Boston University
won its fourth straight title and ninth in the last 10 years
with a meet record 16 points. The Terriers had the meet's
top four finishers, including individual champion Lauren
Matthews (17:58.3).
The Delaware women improved two spots
from last season, placing fourth with 116 points behind
Boston University, Vermont, and New Hampshire. The Hens have
placed fourth three of the last four years.
Senior Mike DiGennaro
(Hamilton-Wenham/Essex, MA) was Delaware's top finisher for
the second straight year, placing seventh to earn
All-America East honors in the men's meet. He covered the
5,000 meter course in 26:11.4. He placed third overall in
1998.
Also for Delaware, sophomore Tony
Palmer (Camden Catholic/Merchantville, NJ) was 19th
(27:08.5), freshman Pat Boettcher (William Penn HS)
was 23rd (27:19.7), senior Mark Dawson (Bishop
Shanahan/West Chester, PA) was 25th (27:20.6), and sophomore
Peter Kelly (Elmira Southside/Pine City, NY) was 33rd
(27:41.6).
On the women's side, senior Caron
Marra (Newark HS) led Delaware with a 12th place finish,
covering 3,000 meters in 18:50.8. She has led the team in
all six meets this season.
Also for the Hens, sophomore Aimee
Alexander (Carmel/Stormville, NY) was 14th (19:01.2),
improving eight spots from last season; sophomore
Jennifer Krisch (Great Valley/Malvern, PA) was 21st
(19:41.5); freshman Monica Marchetta (Milton/Milton,
MA) was 37th (20:22.7); and junior Jae Mentzer
(Central Dauphin/Hershey, PA) was 40th (20:34.1).
