NCAA Regionals at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, PA -- The University of Delaware women's cross country team placed 10th overall and the Blue Hen men were 18th at the NCAA Regionals Saturday at Lehigh University.

The meet was the final outing of the year for both the Blue Hen men's and women's teams.

Sophomore Aimee Alexander (Carmel/Stormville, NY) placed 40th overall in 18:21.72 and Caron Marra (Newark HS) was 41st (18:25.36) overall to lead the Blue Hen women to a 10th place finish out of 22 teams. Georgetown won the women's team title with 44 points followed by Villanova, Bucknell, Princeton, and Penn State.

In the men's race, senior Mike DiGennaro (Hamilton-Wenham/Essex, MA) led the Blue Hens with a 41st place finish in 31:53.47 to lead Delaware to an 18th place finish out of 27 teams. Georgetown won the team title followed by Villanova, Princeton, Navy, and Penn State.

Also for the Delaware women, sophomore Jenn Krisch (Great Valley/Malvern, PA) was 55th (18:42.84), freshman Monica Marchetta (Milton, MA HS) was 92nd (19:25.00), junior Jamie Gelb (Avon Grove/Landenberg, MA) was 101st (19:43.89), junior Jae Mentzer (Lower Dauphin/Hershey, PA) was 102nd (19:44.55), and junior Shauna Hughes (Middlesex, NJ HS) was 110th (19:51.06). Marra had led the Blue Hens in every race this season.

Villanova's Carmen Douma was the individual winner in a time of 16:57.09.

Also for the Delaware men, Tony Palmer (Camden Catholic/ Merchantville, NJ) placed 111th (33:15.01), Pat Boettcher (William Penn HS) placed 124th (33:34.95), Robb Munro (Sidney, NY Central HS) placed 129th (33:39.08), Peter Kelly (Elmira Southside/Pine City, NY) was 141st (33:58.91), and Mike Innis (Arlington/ Poughquay, NY) was 148th (34:23.57). DiGennaro led the Blue Hens in all but one race this season.

Princeton's Paul Morrison was the individual winner in the men's meet, covering the course in 30:22.38.
