CAA Men's Championships Results
NEW MARKET, Va. -- Chris Bourke (at right) led the University of Delaware men’s cross country team to a third place finish while the Blue Hen women were fourth as both UD teams competed in the 2009 Colonial Athletic Association Championships held Saturday morning at New Market Battlefield.
Bourke finished fifth in the eight-kilometer men’s race in 25:23.72, the highest finish by a UD men’s runner at the CAA Championships since Pat Riley placed second in the 2003 race. The Blue Hens tied for their highest ever finish at the CAA Championships, as Delaware also finished third during the 2001, 2002 and 2003 seasons.
The William & Mary men’s team won its 11th consecutive conference title with 21 points, finishing easily ahead of second place George Mason, which finished with 57 points. The Blue Hens were third with 81 points, while Northeastern at 129 points and VCU at 130 points rounded out the top five. Georgia State was sixth with 173 points, while UNC Wilmington finished seventh with 176 points and Hofstra was eighth with 225 points.
Steve Vincent finished 14th for the Blue Hens in 25:47.34, while Nate Parmenter was 16th in 25:52.17 and Nick Pyle placed 24th in 26:10.70. Gregg Cantwell came in 26th place in 26:19.55, while Ed Bonnevie was 32nd after crossing the finish line in 26:32.71.
Kevin Kemmerle placed 36th for Delaware with a time of 26:40.14, while Mitch Kastoff was 47th in 27:26.84 and Aidan Galasso placed 52nd in 27:51.80. Phil Weigel finished 55th in 28:07.77, while Taylor Hinson was 63rd in 28:59.96.
Brian Sklodowski of William & Mary captured the men’s individual title in 25:06.84, as the Tribe featured seven of the top nine finishers.
The William & Mary women’s team took their eighth consecutive CAA Championship by finishing with 33 points, while James Madison was second with 40 points. George Mason finished third with 126 points, narrowly edging Delaware, which came in fourth with 127 points. Towson was fifth with 139 points, followed by UNC Wilmington (147), Northeastern (154), Georgia State (188), VCU (265), and Hofstra (295).
The Blue Hens have now finished fourth at the CAA Championships four times, in addition to their highest finish of third place in 2001.
Julia Somers led the Blue Hens by finishing 15th in the six-kilometer race in 21:54.76, while Jessie Ermak was 17th in 21:57.80 and Katie Deinert came in 30th in 22:48.43. Christine Sloat placed 33rd in 22:52.28, while Sophie Kauffman came in 42nd in 23:11.05 and Alison Zukowski finished 47th in 23:16.54.
Katy Loughran was 48th in 23:17.61 for Delaware, while Kellyn Wright finished 50th in 23:19.64 and Karen Mandrachia came in 62nd in 23:56.84. Bari Melker placed 64th in 24:00.99, while Jen Watunya finished 74th in 24:26.99 and Ali Lambert was 79th in 24:44.38.
Emily Anderson of William & Mary captured the women’s race in 20:35.68, edging her teammate Meghan Burns, who was second in 20:49.02.
Both Blue Hen teams return to action on Saturday, November 14 when Delaware competes in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
