BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Chris Bourke (at right) and Julia Somers were the top finishers for the Blue Hens as the University of Delaware men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the 36th Annual Brooks Paul Short Run Friday morning on the campus of Lehigh University.
Bourke completed the eight-kilometer men’s course in 24:32 to finish in 47th place for the Blue Hens, who finished 25th out of 42 teams in the Men’s Gold team standings. Nike Pyle came in 110th in 25:01, while Andy Weaver was 162nd in 25:20.
Steve Vincent came in 193rd place in 25:29, while Phil Weigel was 222nd in 25:36 and George Vernon finished 231st in 25:38. Kevin Kemmerle placed 242nd in 25:42, while Mitch Kastoff was 319th in 26:18 and Pierce Conlon came in 359th in 26:55.
Nate Parmenter was the top finisher out of six Blue Hens who competed in the JV/Open race, as he finished 22nd in 25:35.
Somers ran the six-kilometer women’s course in 22:07 to finish in 123rd place for Delaware, which finished in 29th place out of 40 squads in the team standings. Jessie Ermak came in 140th place in 22:15, while Lexi Ambrogi was 153rd in 22:21 and Katie Deinert placed 161st in 22:24.
Karen Mandrachia finished 211th in 22:47, while Katy Loughran was 229th in 22:56 and Alison Zukowski came in 239th in 23:00. Sophie Kauffman finished 242nd in 23:02 for the Blue Hens, while Kellyn Wright was 284th in 23:22 and Ali Lambert finished 286th in 23:23.
Sarah Ports was the top finisher out of 12 Blue Hens who participated in the JV/Open race, as she finished in 47th place in 23:33.
Indiana won the men’s team title, while West Virginia captured the women’s crown. Ryan Hill of North Carolina State won the men’s race in 23:40, while Neely Spence of Shippensburg took the women’s race in 19:58.
Both Blue Hen teams return to action on October 17 when Delaware hosts the Blue & Gold Invitational. The men’s race will begin at 10:30 a.m. while the women’s race will start at 11:15 a.m.
