Delaware Invitational #1 Sept. 21, 2002 Riley Takes First Place to Leads to Another Meet Title   NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware runners Pat Riley (St. Mark's/Newark, DE) and Erin Gemmill (Penn Manor/Lancaster, PA) each earned individual titles and the Blue Hen men captured their second team title in two weeks to highlight the University of Delaware Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning at White Clay Creek State Park. The Delaware men, who won the season-opening Towson Invitational last Saturday, made it two straight as they won the Division I team title with 24 points, edging runner-up Lehigh (31). Navy was fourth followed by Towson, Howard, and Delaware State in the six-team meet. West Chester won the Division II/III title, running past Lincoln. On the women's side, Lehigh won the Division I team title as the Mountain Hawks placed four runners in the top 10. Towson was second with 51 points followed by Delaware (58), Howard, and Delaware State. The West Chester women also captured the Division II/III team championship. Riley, who placed second at Towson a week ago to lead the Hens, captured first place this week, covering the 8,000 meter course in 26:15.66. The first place finish was the fourth of Riley's career at Delaware. Also for the Hens, Pat Boettcher (William Penn/New Castle, DE) placed fourth in 27:17.98, Mike Sadowsky (Brandywine/Wilmington, DE) was fifth (27:18.95), Matt Harrell (Middletown/Middletown, MD) was sixth (27:24.82), Kevin DuPrey (Lampeter-Strasburg/Strasburg, PA) placed eighth (27:37.69). Gemmill, a senior, was the overall winner for the second straight week as she covered the 5,000-meter course in time of 19:18.72 to lead the Blue Hens. Gemmill won the race by 31 seconds over runner-up Christine Boyd of Lehigh. Also for the Hens, freshman Sari Weissbard (Fairlawn/Fairlawn, NJ) was seventh (20:11.32), sophomore Kate Klim (Barnstable/Cummaquid, MA) was eighth (20:12.00), and freshman Allison Behrle (Stonewall Jackson/Manassas, VA) was 20th (20:55.74).
