Delaware Men Place
3rd as Riley's 2nd Place Finish is Best Since
1962
TOWSON, MD -- Senior Patrick
Riley recorded the best conference finish for the
University of Delaware men since 1962 in leading the Blue
Hens to a third place team finish at the Colonial Athletic
Association Cross Country Championships Saturday at Towson
University's Oregon Ridge Park.

Riley (St. Mark's/Newark, DE) placed second
overall in the men's race with a time of 25:46 over the
8,000-meter course to lead the UD men to their third
straight third place finish at the meet. Riley, who has now
led the Hens in 23 consecutive meets since 2001, earned the
best finish by a Delaware runner at the conference meet
since Roy Jernigan was second at the Middle Atlantic
Conference meet in 1962.
The University of Delaware women, led by
a 26th place finish (23:12 over 6,000m) by senior Erin
Gemmill (Penn Manor/Lancaster, PA), finished sixth in
the team standings, improving one spot from last season.
The William & Mary men captured their
fourth straight team title with 20 points followed by James
Madison (54), Delaware (76), Virginia Commonwealth (126),
Towson (153), Hofstra (164), George Mason (182), and UNC
Wilmington (228). Either William & Mary and James
Madison have finished first and second each of the last 12
CAA championships. Delaware has finished in the top three of
its conference meet eight times in the last 11
seasons.
On the women's side, William & Mary
won its first CAA title since 1998, breaking a string of
four straight James Madison titles. The Tribe totalled 18
points followed by James Madison (51), Hofstra (78), Towson
(123), Virginia Commonwealth (140), Delaware (161), George
Mason (186), and UNC Wilmington (202).
William & Mary's Ed Moran captured
the individual title for the second straight year as he
covered the course in a record time of 25:18, 36 seconds
better than Riley. The Tribe placed seven runners in the top
10. Also for the Hens, senior Mike Sadowsky
(Brandywine/ Wilmington, DE) earned his third career top 20
league finish with a 13th place finish (26:39) while
sophomore Kevin DuPrey (Lampeter-Strasburg/Strasburg,
PA) was 18th (27:09), and senior John Morgan (San
Clemente/Ladera Ranch, CA) was 23rd (27:40).
William & Mary's Ali Henderson won
the women's meet after placing second a year ago. She
covered the course in 20:12, 40 seconds better than teammate
Emily Halm. The Tribe placed seven runners in the top
10.
Gemmill led the Hens for the second
straight year after placing 24th a year ago. Also for the
Hens, freshman Meghan Weaver (Archbishop
Spalding/Harwood, MD) was 35th (23:55), sophomore Renee
Gresh (Washington Twp./Turnersville, NJ) was 37th
(24:05), and sophomore Jenn Kutney
(Brandywine/Wilmington, DE) placed 44th (24:25).
Both Delaware teams will continue action
Nov. 15 at the NCAA District II championships at Lock Haven
(PA) University.
