IC4A Indoor Track & Field
Championships
March 4-5, 2000 Harvard University
DiGennaro Places
7th in 3,000 Meters; Earns All-East
Honors
BOSTON -- The University of
Delaware had two track and field athletes earn All-East
honors in regional competition this past weekend.
Sophomore Annemarie Quinn (Strath-Haven
HS/Wallingford, PA) placed sixth in the high jump (5-4 1/2)
at the ECAC women's championships Saturday at the Reggie
Lewis Track Club to earn All-East honors while senior
Mike DiGennaro (Hamilton-Wenham/Hamilton, MA) was
seventh in the 3,000 meters (8:29.0) Sunday at the IC4A
Championships at Harvard University.
DiGennaro, the America East 3,000 meter
runner-up, set a new school record in the event in
Saturday's preliminaries with a time of 8:21.54, breaking
the UD mark of 8:23.2 by John Wehner in
1982.
The Delaware women placed 43rd overall in
the ECAC team standings while the Blue Hen men were 49th
overall in the IC4A men's standings.
Also for the Delaware men, Tom
Marando (St. Mark's HS) placed 27th in the shot put with
a toss of 47-11. Also competing but not advancing to the
finals were Pat Boettcher (William Penn HS) in the
800 meters (1:53.67), Joe Quigley (William Penn HS)
in the 800 meters (1:55.48); Mark Coyle (East/West
Chester, PA) in the 1,000 meters (2:32.22); and the two mile
relay team of Troy Bockius (Dover HS), Boettcher,
Quigley, and Coyle (8:00.42); and the mile relay team of
Asher Ailey (West Windsor/Plainsboro, NJ), Brian
Demlein (Christian Brothers/DeWitt, NY), Emeka
Igwe (Dickinson HS), and Peter Lenz (McKean HS)
in 3:21.51.
Also for the Delaware women, Carol
Oliveri (St. Rose/Brick, NJ) was 15th in the pole vault,
breaking her own school record with a height of 10-6; the
distance medley team team of Jen Lublanecki (West Morris
Central/Long Valley, NJ), Jennifer Krisch (Great
Valley/Malvern, PA), Aimee Alexander (Carmel/Stormville,
NY), and Caron Marra (Newark HS) was 15th in a time of
12:00.73; Alexander was 20th in the 3,000 meters (10:23.14),
and Caltha Seymour (A.I. duPont HS) was 23rd in the weight
throw (48-11 3/4).
Georgetown captured the team titles in
both the men's and women's competitions.
The meets concluded the indoor season for
both the Blue Hen men's and women's teams.
