Patrick Sets School Records in 60m, 200m Races

 

Butch Patrick set two school records and had two top six finishes

NEW YORK - Butch Patrick set two school records and Monica Marchetta captured the women's 3,000 meter run to highlight University of Delaware performances at the Metropolitan Athletics Congress Open Indoor Track and Field Meet Friday at the New York Armory.

Patrick, a senior from Newark, DE (Newark HS) had two top 10 finishes as he placed second in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.80 seconds, breaking his own school record. He then followed with a sixth place finish in the 200 meters with a school record time of 22.16, breaking the mark of current UD assistant coach Mark Fields set in 1993 (22.25).

Marchetta (Milton/Milton, MA) was one of seven UD women with top finishes as she captured the 3,000 meter run in a time of 10:33.19 for her first victory of the season.

Also for the UD women, freshman Erin Gemmill (Penn Manor/Lancaster, PA) placed second in the 800 meters (2:18.69), Lisa Steward (Millville/Millsville, NJ) was fourth in the pole vault (10-0), Liesje Cardillo (Bishop Eustace/Marlton, NJ) was fifth in the long jump (17-8), Laura Dietrich (Northeastern/York, PA) was fifth in the triple jump (34-2 3/4), Tyechia Smith (McNair/Jersey City, NJ) was seventh in the 400 meters (59.62), and Kristen Salvatore (St. Mark's/Bear, DE) was 10th in the 200 meters (26.63).

Also for the Delaware men, Jon DiNozzi (Fox Lane, NY/Bear, DE) was second in the pole vault (15-3), Andy Conklin (John Jay/Fishkill, NY) was third in the triple jump (39-8 1/2), Andy Talarowski (Haverford/Havertown, PA) was eighth in the 800 meters (1:59.56), and Brandon Nesbitt (Ewing/Trenton, NJ) was 13th in the 400 meters (51.07.
