Blue Hens Place Second in Two Relays at New Balance Collegiate Invitational

NEW YORK -- University of Delaware freshman Colleen O'Brien added another meet title to her list by capturing the women's mile run and the Blue Hen men placed second in two relay events at the New Balance Collegiate Indoor Track and Field Invitational this past weekend at the New York Armory.

The annual meet attracted some the top teams and athletes in the nation from all divisions, including Louisiana State University, Texas, Penn State, Maryland, and Villanova.

O'Brien, a freshman from North Hunterdon, NJ (Lebanon HS) who has now captured five meet titles this indoor season, won the mile run with a time of 4:58.28 - the third fastest time in school history - and placed 27th in the 800 meters with a clocking of 2:18.69 - the fifth fastest time in school history.

The Delaware's men's distance medley relay team of Charlie Dielmann, Dave Sherman, Mike Zeberkiewicz, and Brad Dodson (right) was second in a time of 10:08.96, just six seconds off the winning time by the College of New Jersey, while the Blue Hen 4 x 800 meter relay team of Kyle Schmid, Mike Roth, Zeberkiewicz, and Dodson was also second in a time of 7:46.87, four seconds off Lafayette's winning time.

Also for the UD women, Kate Klim was 12th in the 3,000 meters (11:06.03), Brittany Wright was 19th in the 60 meters, breaking her own school record with a time of 7.77, and also was 43rd in the 200 meters (25.85), Rayna Horsey was 37th in the 60 meters (8.11), and Kristen Frustillo was 53rd in the 200 meters (26.29) and 57th in the 400 meters (59.30).

Also for the Delaware men, the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Pat Henry, Charlie Williams, Phil Smiley, and Sherman was sixth (3:21.19), Dielmann was 16th in the 1,000 meters (2:33.37), Williams was 27th in the 400 meters (50.15), Roger Brown was 34th in the 60 meters (7.11), Rashaad Woodard was 37th in the 60 meters (7.12) and 38th in the 200 meters (22.96), Henry was 39th in the 200 meters (22.99) and 40th in the 60 meters (7.14), Smiley was 41st in the 400 meters (51.51), and Sherman was 46th in the 400 meters (52.25).
