BOSTON - Junior Brad Dodson (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV - at right) earned All-East honors with a second place finish in the mile run to lead University of Delaware competitors at the IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships Sunday at Boston University.

Delaware junior Rachel Young (Sparta/Sparta, NJ) placed 15th in the shot put to highlight the Blue Hen women at the Eastern College Athletic Conference women’s indoor championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

The competition wrapped up the 2005-06 season for both UD indoor track and field teams.

Dodson, who set two school records and posted four top 10 finishes in the mile run this season, covered the mile in a time of 4:08.86 to place second, just .43 of a second behind winner John Mickowski of Army.

Dodson, who set the school record in the mile with a time of 4:07.43 earlier this season, had posted the top mile time in Saturday’s preliminaries with a time of 4:08.50. Dodson became the first UD indoor track and field athlete to earn All-East honors since Butch Patrick was seventh in the 60 meters in 2002 and his second place finish was the best for a Blue Hen since Dave Geesaman was second in the 5,000 meters at Cornell in 1998.

Also for the Delaware men at the IC4A meet, the distance medley relay team of Gregg Cantwell, Steven Jackson, Will Jurkowski, and Kyle Schmid placed 14th with a time of 10:12.44, Jurkowski (North Salem/North Salem, NY) placed 16th in the 800 meters with a clocking of 1:54.18, and Jared Wasser (Wootton/North Potomac, MD) was 19th in the shot put with a toss of 50-feet, 6-inches.

Dodson also qualified for the IC4A in the distance medley, 1,000 meters, and 3,000 meters, Jurkowski also qualified in the 1,000 meters, and Chris Dixon qualified in the 500 meters but did not compete.

On the women’s side, Young was the top UD finisher as she placed 15th in the shot put with a throw of 42-feet, 11 3/4 inches. She enjoyed an outstanding indoor season, capturing three first place finishes in the event.

Also for the UD women, the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Alexi Capsouras, Paula Green, Daniella Price, and Laura Heenan placed 26th overall with a time of 3:59.04.

The Delaware men placed 28th overall in the team standings while the UD women placed 49th overall.
