Guida Wins Pole Vault as Delaware Places Fourth at John Covert Classic at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, PA -- Led by two first place finishes by Asha Quant, the University of Delaware women’s indoor track and field team captured the team title at the John Covert Indoor Track and Field Classic hosted by Lehigh University Saturday at Rauch Field House.

The Delaware women took six first place finishes to earn 128 points and outdistance runner-up Towson (92), Saint Joseph’s, Sacred Heart, Lehigh, Moravian, East Stroudsburg, Richard Stockton, and Ursinus in the nine-team field.

The Blue Hen men took just one first place finish - Matt Guida (at right) in the pole vault - and placed fourth overall with 62 points. Lehigh took the team title with 131 points followed by Sacred Heart (121), East Stroudsburg, Delaware, Moravian, Ursinus, Richard Stockton, Rowan, Kean, Army, and Saint Joseph’s in the 11-team field.

Quant won the 60 meters in 7.84 and the 200 meters in 25.63 while also taking third place in the long jump (17-9 1/2) to lead the UD women. Also for the Hens, Christina Antonopoulos won the mile (5:15.84), Cristine Marquez won the 400 meters (58.82) and was second in the 200 meters (26.01), Alexi Capsouras won the 500 meters (1:19.83) and was second in the 60 meter hurdles (9.35), the 4 x 800 meter relay team took first (9:47.16), and Rachel Young won the shot put for the fourth time this season with a toss of 44-4 1/4).

For the Delaware men, Guida won the pole vault event for the second straight week as he leaped 15-3 3/4 for the second highest jump in school history. Jared Wasser was second in the shot put (52-10 1/4) while Matt O’Brian was third in the 3,000 meters (9:16.45).
