Delaware Athletes Win Five Events; Men Place Second, Women Sixth at Ursinus Invitational

COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- Five University of Delaware athletes brought home first place finishes as the Blue Hen men placed second in the team standings and the UD women finished sixth at the Frank Coldren Invitational Track and Field Meet hosted by Ursinus College Saturday afternoon at Bakes Field House.

Rachel Young won the women’s shot put, Kelli McDonald captured the women’s pole vault, Brandon Swartout won the men’s long jump, and Tim Brock (at right) captured the men’s 800 meters and teamed with Nick Morrissey, Alex Tingue, and Steven Jackson to win the men's 4 x 400 meter relay.

The Delaware placed second in the team standings with 72 points, just one-half point behind team champion and host Ursinus with 72.5 points. Joins Hopkins was third, Gettysburg finished fourth, and Dickinson was fifth in the 21-team field. On the women’s side, Delaware placed sixth among 20 teams. Towson won the women’s team title wilt 165 points followed by Joins Hopkins, Gettysburg, Dickinson, and Delaware.

Young won her 17th career meet title as she captured the shot put with a toss of 43-11 3/4 while McDonald captured her fourth career meet title in the pole vault with a leap of 11-5 3/4). Brock was the lone double winner for the Blue Hens as he won the 800 meters (2:00.00) and was part of the 4 x 400 meter relay team that won in a time of 3:32.18. Swartout won the men’s long jump with a leap of 21-4 3/4.

Also for the UD women, Amanda Marshall was second in the shot put (42-2), Annie Fulton was sixth in the triple jump (33-4 1/2) and 10th in the long jump (15-0) while Stephanie Taylor was seventh in the 800 meters (2:29.81).

On the men’s side, Kyle Nagy was second in the 200 meters (23.19), Conrad Rapp was third in the pole vault (14-5 1/4), Mike Roth was third in the mile (4:30.93), Doug Alpers was fourth in the shot put (47-3), Tyler Mayforth was fourth in the mile (4:31.85), Alex Gambogi wsa sixth in the mile (43:33.34), and Matt Arbaugh was sixth in the pole vault (13-11 1/4).
