NEW YORK -- Cristine Marquez and Gregg Cantwell (at right) were the top finishers for the University of Delaware indoor track and field teams at the Great Dane Invitational hosted by the University at Albany at the New York City Armory.
Marquez placed third in the 4 x 400 meter relay and ninth in the 200 meter dash in the women’s section while Cantwell was a ninth place finisher in the 3,000 meters.
The Delaware women finished 21st out of 30 teams with six points while the Blue Hen men were 22nd out of 29 teams with seven points. Host Albany won the team titles in both divisions.
Marquez teamed with Kristi Cox, Asia Hollis, and Kayla Hennessy to post a third place finish in the 4 x 400 meter relay with a time of 3:52.03, the fourth best time in school history.
Marquez also placed ninth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.08 while Cox was 16th in the 400 meters with a clocking of 59.07.
On the men’s side, Cantwell led the way for the Blue Hens as he posted a fourth place finish in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:35.78. Also for the Hens, the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Vinny Fronczkowski, Justin Molligan, Jeremy Simkins, and Nick Morrisey placed 11th with a time of 3:23.2, Simkins was 25th in the 400 meters (50.44), and Nick Morrisey was 25th in the 200 meters with a time of 23.04).
