NEW YORK -- Senior Doug Alpers (at right) captured the shot put, Nick Pyle was third in the 5,000 meters, and Jillian Seamon and Liz Paul each posted seventh place finishes to lead the University of Delaware indoor track and field teams at the Gotham Collegiate Cup meet Friday at the New York City Armory.
Alpers was the Blue Hens’ lone winner as he won the shot put competition with a toss of 42-feet, 8 1/4 inches and also recorded a 12th place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 46-feet, 10 1/4-inches.
The Delaware men posted eight Top 20 finishes as Nick Pyle placed third in the 5,000 meters (15:02.07), Tywan Brooks was 14th in the 800 meters (2:01.80), Connor Whitesel finished 15th in the weight throw (45-2 1/4), Brendan O’Hora was 15th in the long jump (19-6 1/4), Nick Alexander placed 17th in the seeded shot put (40-11 3/4), and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Alex Tingue, Jonathan Santiago, Tim Kutchen, and Adam Cornelisse was 18th with a time of 3:31.25.
The Blue Hen women recorded five top 20 finishes led by freshman Jillian Seamon who was seventh in the long jump (15-4 3/4) and by senior Liz Paul who was seventh in the 5,000 meters (18:26.52). Seamon also finished 49th in the 60 meter hurdles (8.66).
Also for the UD women, Alexa Windsor finished 11th in the high jump (5-1), Sophie Kauffman was 19th in the 3,000 meters (11:23.33), Stephanie LaFergola was 19th in the mile run (5:38.89), and Ali Lambert was 22nd in the 3,000 meters (11:34.35).
Delaware will continue action Saturday at the Penn State Open in State College, Pa.
