NEW YORK -- The University of Delaware distance medley relay teams were the top finishers for the Blue Hen men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams at the New Balance Invitational Friday night at the New York City Armory.

The Blue Hen men’s distance medley relay team of James Townsend, Jeremy Simkins (at right), Mike Tait, and Nate Twer placed second overall in the college division with an IC4A-qualifying time of 10:13.41 while the UD women’s distance medley relay team of Karen Mandrachia, Asia Hollis, Kellyn Wright, and Christina Antonopoulos was 13th in the championship with an ECAC-qualifying time of 11:51.32.

Also for the UD women, Yianna Antonopoulos was 14th in the 3,000 meters with a personal best time of 10:08.97, Marquez was 71st in the 400 meters (58.60), Alexi Capsouras was 75th in the 60 meter hurdles (9.43) and 126th in the 400 meters (1:02.51), and Kristi Cox was 86th in the 400 meters (59.16).

Also for the UD men, Jeremy Simkins was 46th in the 500 meters (1:07.16), John Hally was 57th in the 60 meter hurdles with a personal best time (8.52), Vinny Fronczkowski was 111th in the 400 meters (51.34), Nick Morrisey was 115th in the 400 meters (51.45), and Justin Molligan was 133rd in the 400 meters (52.25).

The meet will continue Saturday with UD women competing in the 5,000 meters (Julia Somers), 200 meters (Marquez, Cox, Hennessy, Kayla Hennessy, and Asia Hollis), 4 x 400 meter relay (Cox, Hennessy, Hollis, Marquez), and 4 x 800 meter relay (Antonopoulos, Christina Antonopoulos, Wright, and Mandrachia).

The UD men will compete on Saturday in the 5,000 meters (Gregg Cantwell), 200 meters (Fronczkowski, Molligan, Morrisey, Simkins), 4 x 400 meter relay (Fronczkowski, Molligan, Morrisey, and Simkins), and 4 x 800 meter relay (Tait, Townsend, Wall, Twer).
