NEW YORK -- The University of Delaware women captured three events, including a record-setting performance in the 1,000 meters by Karen Mandrachia, and the Blue Hen men recorded two runner-up finishes to highlight performances at the New York University Fasttrack Invitational Friday night at the New York City Armory.

The meet was the final regular season competition of the indoor season for the Blue Hens. Both Delaware teams will compete at the ECAC and I4A regional championships Mar. 7-9 at Boston.

Mandrachia won the 1,000 meters with a record of time of 2:52.71, breaking the old Delaware mark of 2:54.00 by Jill Riblett in 1992. Marquez later teamed with Asia Hollis, Alexi Capsouras, and Kristi Cox to place second in the 4 x 400 meter relay with the second best time in school history at 3:49.97.

Jamie Igo (at right) was the top men’s finisher for Delaware as he placed second in the high jump (6-4 1/4) and also finished 10th in the triple jump with a leap of 42-9). Delaware’s 4 x 800 meter relay team of Tywan Brooks, Kyle Chou, Kevin Sadeghipour, and Alex Szela finished second with a time of 7:58.37.

Also for the UD women, Christina Antonopoulos was third in the mile with a third best time in school history (4:57.05), Laura Chirico was fourth in the pole vault (11-5 1/4), and Alexa Windsor was fifth in the high jump (5-1).
