Delaware Men and Women Indoor Track and Field Teams Win Thomson Invitational

NEWARK, Del. - Both the Delaware men and women indoor track teams took first in the team standings and seven different UD athletes captured first place finishes to highlight the Thomson Invitational at the Delaware Field House on Saturday.

The Delaware women placed first with a score of 110.83. The Blue Hens were followed by Towson (105), Delaware State (92), Rider (85) and Coppin State (70) to round out the top-five.

On the men's side, Delaware placed first with a score of 147.5. The Blue Hens were followed by Delaware State (146), Temple (142), Rider (60.5) and St. Joseph's (51.5).

The Delaware women had five first place finishes as senior Amanda Marshall won the women's weight throw with a throw of 51-4 1/4, junior Kellyn Wright won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.75, junior Cristine Marquez won the 400 meter dash at 58.18, sophomore Karen Mandrachia won the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:02.57 and senior Kelli McDonald won the pole vault with a leap of 11-9 3/4.

The men had two first place finishers as sophomore John Hally won the men's 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.77, and sophomore John Viotto (at right) won the men's shot put with a throw of 51-5 1/2.
