Brown and McMonagle
highlight Blue Hens at Delaware Indoor Track and Field
Invitational
NEWARK, DE -- University of
Delaware freshman Roger Brown placed first in the 60
meter dash, Brett McMonagle won the men's pole vault
and the men's 4 x 400 relay team garnered top honors to
highlight Blue Hen performances at the University of
Delaware Indoor Track and Field Invitational Friday night at
the Delaware Field House.
The Delaware men had 15 top three
finishes on the day while the UD women had four top three
finishes.
Brown, a freshman that is also a member
of the Blue Hen football team, highlighted the day for
Delaware with a 7.01 finish in the 60 meter dash. Fellow
football teammate Sidney Haugabrook placed third with
a time of 7.08.
Also winning for the Blue Hens was
McMonagle, who paced the men's pole vault with a mark of
4.20 meters. Teammate Matt Johnson placed second with
a mark of 4.05 meters.
Also for the Blue Hens, Jay Pava
was second in the 400 meters (51.98), Brandon Nesbitt
was third in the 400 meters (52.12) and sixth in the 200
meters (23.65); Mike Sadowski and Kevin Duprey
finished second and third in the 3000 meters with times of
8:56.15 and 9:08.99 respectively. John Morgan
finished third in the 1000 meters (2:36.15) and fourth
in the one mile run (4:26.84). Matt Harrell was third
in the 800 meters (2:06.26) and Nick Riordan placed
third in the triple jump (12.43 meters) and fourth in the
long jump (6.25 meters); Mike Yost was second in
weight throw (15.41 meters) and third in shot put (12.81
meters).
On the women's side, Erin Gemmill
paced the Hen's with a third place finish in the one mile
run (5:10.57) and a third place finish in the 1000 meters
(3:04.79). Casey Bennett was third in the pole vault
(3.35 meters). Tyechia Smith placed fourth in the 400
meters (1:00.36) and fifth in the 200 meters (26.65).
Daniella Price was fourth in the 60 meter hurdles
(9.56).
There were two Delaware Field House
records broken during the meet as Maryland's Teyarnte Carter
set a record time of 7.56 in the 60 meter dash, besting the
previous mark of 7.60. Maryland's Natalie Dye set a record
in the pole vault with a leap of 3.82 meters.
