LANDOVER, MD -- The University of
Delaware picked up three first place finishes at the
University of Maryland/PVA Indoor Track and Field
Invitational Saturday morning at the Prince George's Sports
Complex.
The Delaware men picked up two wins as
junior John Morgan won the 800 meters in a time of
1:57.42 and the 4x 400m relay team of Brandon Nesbitt,
Jay Pava, Phil Smiley, and Jim Delgrosso won in a
time of 3:24.97. On the women's side, Delaware's Erin
Gemmill captured the 800 meter competition by winning in
a time of 2:17.74. Morgan and Gemmill both were victorious
for the second straight week after winning events at last
week's Delaware Invitational.
In all, Delaware athletes picked up 13
top 10 finishes on the both the men's and women's sides in
the non-scoring meet.
Taking home second place finishes for
Delaware were Roger Brown in the men's 60 meters
(6.98), Jerome Holder in the men's 60 meter hurdles
(8.60), Casey Bennett in the women's pole vault
(10-6), and Melissa Calvanico in the women's shot put
(39 1.4).
Also for the Blue Hens, Mike Yost
placed fifth in the shot put (43-9 1/4) and sixth in the
weight throw (48-1 1/4) in the men's race and Elizabeth
Russell placed seventh in the high jump (4-11 3/4) and
eighth in both the 60 meter hurdles (10.26) and long jump
(15-3 1/2) on the women's side.
Both Delaware teams will resume action
Jan. 31-February 1 at the National College Open at Penn
State and Feb. 1 at the Widener University
Invitational.
