Brown Captures 200 Meters to Lead Blue Hens Track Team

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- Roger Brown captured the 200 meters and the University of Delaware men posted three second place finishes and Toni Riggi led the Blue Hen women with a second place finish in the 1,000 meters at the Princeton Indoor Track and Field Invitational Saturday at the Lawrenceville School.

Brown ran to a time of 22.30 to win the 200 meters and also placed third in the 55 meter dash with an IC4A-qualifying time of 6.44 to lead the Blue Hens at the meet. Delaware also got second place finishes from the 4 x 400 meter relay (3:26.0) and from John Morgan in the 1,000 meters (2:31.71) and from Sidney Haugabrook in the 55 meters (6.40). Haugabrook's time also qualified him for the IC4A meet and was the second fastest time in the event in school history.

Riggi had the top finish for the UD women as she placed second in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:13.04. Placing third for the Hens were the 4 x 400 meter relay team (4:22.9) and Rebecca Seery in the 500 meters (1:23.95) while Veronica Welsh was fourth in the 1,000 meters (3:14.38) and Laura Heenan was fourth in the 500 meters (1:24.36).

Also for the UD men, Brad Dodson was third in the 1,000 meters (2:35.56), Charlie Williams was third in the 400 meters (50.57), Haugabrook was fourth in the 200 meters (22.33), and Dennis Spence was fifth in the long jump (20-11 3/4).

Both Delaware teams will compete at the New York University Fasttrack Invitational at The Armory this Friday night, Feb. 27.
