Championships - Day 2
Delaware Track Team
Advances at IC4A Championship
BOSTON - The University of Delaware men's indoor
track and field team had several outstanding performances at
the second day of the IC4A Championships Saturday at the
Reggie Lewis Sports Center.
The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Mark Coyle
(East/West Chester, PA), Joe Quigley
(Salesianum), Troy Bockius (Dover HS), and Steve
Sinko (St. Mark's HS) had the fifth fastest time of the
day with a school record clocking of 7:38.11 to advance to
Sunday's final. The team broke the record set by Dennis
Lenoir, John Stroup, Joe McLaughlin, and Jim Gano
in 1979.
The distance medley relay team of Mike DiGennaro
(Hamilton- Wenham/Essex, MA), Andrew Johnson (Dover
HS), Bokah Worjolah (Dickinson HS), and Kevin
Danahy (Dover HS) ran to a time of 10:09.66 to place
eighth and qualify for Sunday's final.
Individually, Tom Marando (St. Mark's HS) placed
11th in the shot put with a career-best throw of 50-3 1/2,
Jamin Elliott (Churchland/Portsmouth, VA) was 12th in
the long jump with a leap of 22-2 1/2, Butch Patrick
(Newark HS) was 15th in the long jump (21-6 1/4), and
Eric Sands (Tunkhannock, Pa. HS) was 23rd in the
shot put (48-10 1/4).
Patrick also competed in the 60 meters but his time of
7.05 did not qualify him for the finals.
