The win was Delaware first road victory
over Towson since 1979. The Blue Hens (5-4, 1-0 America
East) had lost 10 consecutive road games to Towson (1-5, 0-1
America East).
Towson scored on two of its first four
shots en route to a 4-0 lead. The Blue Hens trailed by four
twice the first half before taking the lead with a 5-0 third
quarter, which capped an 8-0 run. Lavey, a native of
Huntington Station, NY, scored three times during the spurt.
He started the run when he scored on a wrap-around goal from
the left side of the net with 8:55 remaining in the second
quarter, which cut the Towson lead to 6-3. Lavey later
capped the run when he scored off a feed from Wertheimer
with 4:28 remaining in the third quarter to give Delaware a
10-6 lead.
Towson ended its drought of 27:05 without
scoring a goal when Brad Reppert scored unassisted from the
left side just 28 seconds into the fourth quarter. Towson
went on to score six of the next eight goals to tie the
game, 13-13, on Reppert's fifth-goal of the game - a nifty
behind the back shot off of a loose ball in front of the net
- with 45 seconds remaining.
After a Towson timeout, the Tigers won
the ensuing face-off. However, Bryan Barrett picked up a
ground ball and raced the length of the field down the right
sideline. He dished to Lavey, who found Wertheimer at the
left side of the net for the go-ahead goal.
Ryan Metzbower added an insurance
goal as time expired for the final margin.
Delaware hosts Hofstra Friday night in a
key America East match-up. Game time at Rullo Stadium is
7:30 p.m.
