NEWARK, DE -- Sophomore Chris
Collins posted a career-high 18 saves and Matt
Alrich and Bob Meunier each contributed three
goals as the University of Delaware posted its third
straight victory with a 10-3 win over Marist Wednesday
afternoon at Rullo Stadium.
Delaware improved to 4-2 on the season
with its third straight win as it surpassed last season's
win total when the Blue Hens went 3-11. Marist got two goals
from Tim Iucalano but remained winless on the season at
0-4.
Delaware outshot the Red Foxes 44-26,
held a 47-23 advantage in groundballs, took advantage of 13
failed clears by Marist, and held a 10-6 advantage in
faceoffs as the Blue Hens held an opponent to its lowest
goal total since defeating Vermont 10-3 during the 2000
season.
Collins, a sophomore and first-year
starter from Yorktown, NY (Lakeland-Panas), was outstanding
in the nets, posting a career-high 18 saves to improve to
4-2 on the season.
Alrich, a junior from Timonium, MD
(Calvert HS), led the Hens with three goals and also dished
out an assist to up his goal total to a team-leading 15 this
season. He has scored a goal in all six games this season.
Meunier, a sophomore from Arlington, VA (Bishop O'Connell
HS), netted a career-high three goals and also dished out an
assist for the Hens.
Scott Evans, Dan Hechtkopf, Ryan
Metzbower, and Kurt Nordhoff also scored goals
for the Blue Hens.
The teams battled to a 1-1 tie after the
first quarter and the Hens led only 3-1 at intermission as
Meunier scored twice in the opening stanza. The Hens broke
the game open in the third quarter, outscoring Marist 5-1
during the stanza as five different players scored a
goal.
