RICHMOND,
VA -- University of Delaware freshman
midfielder Vincent Giordano (right) has
been named the first weekly Colonial
Athletic Association Men's Lacrosse Rookie
of the Week, the CAA announced Tuesday.
In
addition to Giordano, Villanova junior
goalkeeper Joe Canuso was named the CAA
Player of the Week after posting 16 saves
and allowing just two goals in the
Wildcats' 5-2 win over Binghamton
Saturday.
Giordano,
a midfielder from Moorestown, NJ
(Moorestown High School), has helped
Delaware jump out to a 2-1 start this
season with big wins over Saint Joseph's
and Lehigh and a setback to Stony Brook.
Delaware
will host Rutgers, a team that advanced to
the NCAA Tournament a year ago, this
Saturday, March 5 at 1 p.m. at Rullo
Stadium.
Giordano
has enjoyed an outstanding start to his
career with the Blue Hens, scoring a goal
in all three games. He scored a second
quarter goal in Delaware's season-opening
18-3 win over Saint Joseph's Feb. 12,
scored a third quarter goal in the Blue
Hens' 12-2 win over Lehigh Feb. 19, and
added a third period score in a 14-9
setback to Stony Brook this past Saturday.
Delaware
has claimed the CAA Rookie of the Week
seven over the last two seasons as Cam
Howard earned the award four times last
season and Alex Smith garnered rookie
honors twice.
