Delaware's
Vincent Giordano Named CAA Rookie of the
Week for Third Time

RICHMOND,
VA -- For the second straight week and
for the third time this season University
of Delaware men's lacrosse freshman
midfielder Vincent Giordano (right) has
been named the Colonial Athletic
Association Rookie of the Week.
A freshman
midfielder from Moorestown, NJ (Moorestown
High School), Giordano played a key role
in Delaware's pivotal 7-6 win over CAA foe
Drexel Saturday in
Philadelphia.
Giordano
scored two goals as Delaware (9-4, 4-1
CAA) won its second straight game, its
fifth win in the last six games, and
clinched the CAA regular season title. No.
1 seed Delaware will host No. 4 Hofstra in
the CAA semifinals May 4 at Rullo
Stadium.
Drexel
jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first half
before the Hens rallied. Giordano scored
his first goal late in the second quarter
to cut the lead to 4-2 and scored again
with 39 seconds left in the third quarter
to tie the game at 5-5.
He
recorded his third multiple goal game of
the season and increased his goal total to
12 this season. He earned CAA honors last
week for his play in Delaware's win over
Villanova and was also honored as CAA
Rookie of the Week back on March 1 as he
scored a goal in each of the Blue Hens'
first three games, helping Delaware get
off to a 2-1 start with wins over Saint
Joseph's and Lehigh.
In
addition to Giordano, also honored by the
CAA was Towson sophomore midfielder Matt
Eckerl, who was named the CAA Player of
the Week after leading the Tigers to a
10-6 win over Hofstra.
Delaware
will travel to Oakland, NJ to take on Yale
Wednesday night and return home for its
regular season finale Saturday to take on
St. John's at 7 p.m.
