Metzbower Join Delaware Men's Lacrosse

-- University of Delaware men's
lacrosse head coach Bob Shillinglaw has
announced the addition of Judd Lattimore
and former Blue Hen standout Ryan
Metzbower to the coaching staff.
Lattimore,
a 2001 graduate of the University of North
Carolina, will serve as a volunteer
assistant while Metzbower, who will earn
his degree from Delaware this year, will
serve as a student assistant coach.
They join
a staff that includes Shillinglaw and
full-time assistant coach Greg Carroll.
Shillinglaw will begin his 30th season as
head coach at Delaware this spring while
Carroll will begin his sixth season. The
Hens will return 21 letterwinners from
last year's squad that posted a 10-6
record and advanced to the Colonial
Athletic Association semifinals.
Lattimore,
a native of Auburn, NY, comes to Delaware
after serving as top assistant and
offensive coordinator at NCAA Division II
power Limestone College in Gaffney, SC the
last two seasons under head coach T.W.
Johnson
The Saints
posted a 13-3 record in 2003 and a 15-2
mark last season, advancing to the NCAA II
championship game each season. The Saints
averaged 19.3 goals per game in 2004, the
highest mark of any NCAA team at any
division, and set a school record with 314
total goals. The 15-2 record was the best
in school history. While at Limestone,
Lattimore coached 10 All-Americans.
He began
his coaching career at Geneseo State
University in 2002, serving as top
assistant and offensive coordinator for a
squad that was nationally ranked and
enjoyed its best season in 20 years.
Lattimore,
who earned his degree in interpersonal and
organizational communications from North
Carolina in 2001, enjoyed a standout
career for the Tar Heels. He was a
three-year starter at midfielder and
earned Inside Lacrosse Pre-Season
All-American honors as a junior in 2000.
He scored three goals each in 1997 and
1998, leading the 1998 squad to the NCAA
Tournament. He missed the entire 1999 and
2000 seasons due to an injury but returned
in 2001 and scored two goals and dished
out four assists for the Tar Heels.
While at
Auburn High School, he earned All-American
honors in both lacrosse and swimming and
competed in the North-South National
Senior All-Star Game.
Metzbower,
a native of Severna Park, MD (St. Mary's
High School), completed an outstanding
four-year career for the Blue Hens last
spring, serving as a co-captain and
recording 15 goals and six assists from
his midfield position to earn second team
All-Colonial Athletic Association honors.
A four-year standout, he finished his
career with 79 goals and 26 assists and
his 105 points rank 22nd all-time in
Delaware history.
He earned
America East Rookie of the Year and
All-America East second team notice as a
freshman in 2000 when he scored 31 goals
and led the Blue Hens to a 10-6 record and
the league regular season title. After
sitting out the entire 2001 season with a
knee injury, he returned to score 19 goals
and dish out four assists in 2002 and
earned second team All-CAA honors in 2003
after scoring 15 goals and four assists.
The Blue
Hens will open the 2005 season Feb. 12 vs.
Saint Joseph's at Rullo
Stadium.
