Men's Lacrosse Moves Into First Place with
Key 12-5 Win over
Villanova

VILLANOVA,
PA -- Sophomore midfielder Dan Deckelbaum
(right) scored three goals, including one
in a pivotal third quarter spurt, to lead
the University of Delaware to a 12-5
Colonial Athletic Association men's
lacrosse victory over Villanova Saturday
night at Villanova Stadium.
The Hens
(8-4, 3-1, CAA), who won for the fourth
time in the last five games and for the
sixth time in the last eight outings and
avenged two losses to the Wildcats last
season, moved into a three-way tie for
first place in the CAA standings with
Hofstra and Towson.
Joe
Trentzsch, Vincent Giordano, and Jordan
Hall each scored two goals to lead the way
for the Blue Hens while Chris Collins made
seven saves in goal. Villanova, which got
two goals from Chris Kramer, fell to 6-5
(2-2 CAA). Delaware held a commanding
41-22 advantage in shots for the game.
Villanova goalkeeper Joe Canuso posted 12
saves.
Villanova
scored two of the game's first three goals
as Kramer and Matt Starker tallied to give
the Wildcats a 2-1 leading heading into
the second stanza.
Deckelbaum
scored his first goal in the second period
and Greg Grevey and Vincent Giordano added
goals as the Blue Hens took a 4-2 lead
into intermission. The third quarter was
all Delaware as Blue Hens outscored
Villanova 5-1 to take a 9-3 lead into the
final stanza.
Deckelbaum,
Trentzsch, Giordano, Hall, and Andy Hipple
all scored to pace the Hens. Dan Fanelli
scored Villanova's lone third quarter goal
with 6:56 left.
Hall,
Delaware's leading scorer this season with
21 goals and 16 assists, scored his second
goal of the game just 23 seconds into the
final quarter to push the lead to 10-3 and
lead the Hens to the victory.
