EDMONTON, ALBERTA -- Former University of Delaware men’s lacrosse standouts John Grant (at right) and Scott Evans have been selected to play in the National Lacrosse League All-Star Game on Sunday, March 16 at the Rexall Place.
Grant and Evans, teammates on the Rochester Knighthawks, are among 18 players representing the East squad in the annual indoor lacrosse all-star game. Grant will be making his fifth All-Star Game appearance while Evans will be making his second appearance in the mid-season classic.
The two, who have led Rochester to a 4-4 record heading into a March 15 game at Edmonton, are among seven former Blue Hen players active in the league in 2008, joining New York Titans players Jordan Hall, Chris Collins, Keevin Galbraith, Bryan Barrett, and Matt Alrich. The Titans currently own a record of 4-5.
Grant, an All-American and the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Player of the Year in 1999 when he led the Blue Hens to the NCAA quarterfinals, is now in his ninth season in the league, all with Rochester. One of the top players in NLL history, he has scored 368 career goals in NLL play, including 51 last year when he was the league’s leading scorer with 111 total points. He is Rochester’s leading scorer again this season and ranks third in the league with 25 goals and 28 assists for 53 points.
Evans, who played at Delaware in 2002-03, is now in his fifth season in the league, all with Rochester. He has scored 130 career goals, including 45 last year when he ranked fourth in the league in total points with 87. He is currently the third leading scorer on the team with 23 goals and 15 assists for 38 points.
The regular season will continue until the end of April with the post-season playoffs beginning in early May.
