PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- No. 13 ranked Brown University jumped out to a 4-0 lead and later outscored the University of Delaware 9-1 over another stretch as the Blue Hens dropped a 13-5 men’s lacrosse decision Saturday afternoon.

Delaware (3-7), coming off a 9-5 win over Lehigh Tuesday that snapped a four-game losing streak, fell behind 4-0 in the first quarter, trailed 8-3 at the break, and never could gain the lead as they fell to the Bears for the second straight year.

Brown (7-1), the Hens’ third top 20 opponent this season, won its sixth straight game as the Bears outshot the Hens 45-33 and held a 34-23 advantage in groundballs.

Thomas Muldoon scored four goals, Andrew Feinberg scored twice and dished out an assist, and Kyle Hollingsworth and Reade Seligman each had a goal and three assists for Brown. Goalkeeper Jordan Burke posted 13 saves and allowed just three goals.

No Blue Hen player scored more than one goal as Kevin Kaminski, Curtis Dickson, Mark Steverson, Martin Cahill, and Carter Bloor each scored. Goalkeeper Noah Fossner recorded 12 saves to post his fourth straight double-figure save total. Blue Hen freshman Dan Cooney (at right) won eight of 11 faceoff attempts for the Hens.

Dickson extended his point-scoring streak to 36 straight games, marking the fifth longest current streak among NCAA Division I players and the second longest in UD history. All-American and UD Athletics Hall of Fame member Anthony DiMarzo scored a point in a school-record 47 games for Delaware in 1992-95. Dickson also moved into 20th place on the all-time UD scoring list with 117 points.

Jake Hardy, Feinberg, Seligman, and Muldoon scored to give Brown a 4-0 lead early in the second quarter before the Hens finally got on the board on a goal by Cahill with 9:12 left in the first half. Brown’s Nic Bell and Delaware’s Steverson traded goals to put the score at 5-2 before Brown reeled off three straight goals for an 8-2 lead. Kaminski scored with just 12 seconds left in the half to narrow the gap to 8-3 at the break.

But Brown never let the Hens get closer as Muldoon scored two goals to start a 5-0 run that upped the Bears’ lead to 13-3 in the fourth quarter. Bloor scored for the Hens with 5:31 left and Dickson tallied with just 2:43 remaining to continue his streak.

Delaware will continue action next Saturday, April 4, when the Hens take on Colonial Athletic Association rival and No. 6 ranked Hofstra at 5 p.m. in the third and final game of the Big City Classic at Giants Stadium at East Rutherford, N.J.
