BALTIMORE -- University of Delaware high-scoring attackman Curtis Dickson (at right) has been selected to the Faceoff Magazine pre-season men’s lacrosse Division I All-American team.
Dickson, a junior from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia (Riverside High School), was named to the third team and was one of 97 athletes mentioned on the first, second, third, and honorable mention teams. The teams were selected from a vote of the editors of Faceoff Magazine.
Dickson, the lone Blue Hen player honored on the teams, enjoyed an outstanding sophomore season in 2008 when he led Delaware to a 9-7 record and a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association semifinals.
Last spring, he earned United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association honorable mention All-American honors, was runner-up for CAA Player of the Year honors, earned first team All-CAA honors, was a three-time CAA Player of the Week, earned a spot on the CAA All-Tournament team, and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player. He also was a finalist for the Warrior Tewaaraton National Player of the Year trophy.
Dickson ranked among the top offensive threats in the nation in 2008 as he led the CAA in goals per game (2.88) and shots per game (9.06) and ranked fifth nationally with 46 goals. He also added 16 assists and his 62 points ranked ninth in NCAA Division I. He scored three or more goals eight times with a season-high six goals vs. Drexel. Delaware’s offense ranked 10th in the nation with 10.81 goals per game.
Delaware, which will be looking to set a school record with its sixth straight winning season this spring, will open the 2009 campaign Feb. 7 at home vs. Saint Joseph’s.
Cornell led the way with three first-team selections, while Virginia and Syracuse had two selections apiece. Among the CAA players honored were Towson faceoff specialist Mitch Rosensweig on the third team, and Drexel defender Matt McCormick, Hofstra midfielder Anthony Muscarella, and Hofstra goalkeeper Danny Orlando on the honorable mention squad.
