WASHINGTON, D.C. -- University of Delaware junior attackman Curtis Dickson (at right), who is off to a blistering start with nine total goals in the first two games of the season for the Blue Hen men’s lacrosse team, was one of 60 players named to the Warrior Tewaaraton Trophy Player of the Year Watch List announced by the Tewaaraton Award Foundation committee Thursday.

A total of 120 players - 60 men and 60 women - were named to the watch lists. The group will be narrowed down to 10 finalists near the end of the season with the men’s and women’s Player of the Year awards being presented on May 28 at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. sponsored by the Tewaaraton Award Foundation and The University Club of Washington, D.C.

The awards were formally established as the Tewaaraton Trophy on August 29, 2000 and today are recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award honoring the top female and male varsity collegiate lacrosse player in the United States. The award is the equivalent of the Heisman Trophy in college football. Hannah Nielsen of Northwestern and Mike Leveille of Syracuse won the awards in 2008.

Dickson, an attackman from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, was named to the Watch List for the second straight year. The 2008 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association honorable mention All-American and 2009 pre-season Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year was the only player from the CAA recognized.

Dickson has been outstanding over the first two games of the 2009 season, scoring four goals in a season-opening 13-2 win over Saint Joseph’s Feb. 7 and adding a career-high tying five goals in a 14-9 setback to UMBC last Saturday.

He has scored at least one goal in 27 straight games - one shy of the UD record - and has recorded 12 hat tricks for his career. His 98 career points leave him just two shy of reaching the 100-point milestone. His streak of scoring a point in 28 straight games is currently sixth longest active streak in NCAA Division I. ‘

He earned first team All-CAA honors in 2008 when he led the team with 46 goals and was a key member of the 2007 Blue Hen team that advanced to the NCAA Final Four for the first time in school history.

Delaware (1-1) will continue action Saturday, Feb. 21, when the Hens travel to Fairfield (0-0) for a 1 p.m. meeting against the Stags in Fairfield, Conn.

Other men’s players on the Watch List were Joel White, Dan Hardy, Kenny Nims, Matt Abbott and John Galloway of Syracuse, Drew Adams of Penn State, Kylor Berkman of Salisbury, Ken Clausen, Matt Kelly, Shamel Bratton, Danny Gladding and Garrett Billings of Virginia, Jeremy Blevins of UMBC, Scott Kocis, Craig Dowd, Barney Erhmann, and Andrew Brancaccio of Georgetown, Jordan Burke of Brown, Will Yeatman, Dan Groot, Grant Catalino and Brian Farrell of Maryland, Brian Caufield and Corey Small of Albany, Brandon Corp of Colgate, Eric Hagarty and Nick Cosco of Endicott, Ned Crotty, Brad Ross, Steve Schoeffel, and Max Quinzani of Duke.
