NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware will webcast its first-ever live men’s lacrosse home game on the internet Saturday when the Blue Hens take on No. 11 ranked UMBC at 1 p.m. at Rullo Stadium.

University of Delaware Media Services will produce the match-up and former Blue Hen players Evan Crowther-Washburn and Brett Manney, both standouts on the 2007 UD team that advanced to the NCAA Final Four, will provide the commentary. Manney broadcasted numerous UD football and basketball games on student station WVUD while an undergraduate.

The game will be available free of charge on the University of Delaware athletics website at www.bluehens.com/mens_lacrosse. Click on the “Live Video” link at the right. Fans can also access the game directly from the UD webstream page at www.udel.edu/UMS/udlive/. Live updated statistics for all UD home games are also always available at www.bluehens.com/sportsinfo/livestats/m_lax/xlive.htm.

Plans to webcast additional UD home men’s lacrosse games during the season have not been finalized.

The Blue Hens (1-0), who are looking to start the season 2-0 for the sixth straight year, enter the game coming off a 13-2 non-league win over Saint Joseph’s last Saturday as All-American and pre-season Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year Curtis Dickson led the way with four goals and Martin Cahill and Pat Lombard each scored twice. Goalkeeper Noah Fossner posted nine saves in his first collegiate start in goal.

UMBC (0-0) will be playing its earliest season opener in school history and will be looking to continue its winning ways after advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season in 2008.

The Retrievers returns nine starters from last year’s team that posted a record 12-4, won 11 straight games at one point, and captured the America East conference title. UMBC is led on offense by Ryan Smith and Matt Latham who each scored 29 goals a year ago and by goalkeeper Jeremy Blevins.

The Hens have defeated UMBC each of the last two seasons, posting a 10-6 win in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals in 2007 and 15-7 last season in a game played at Neptune Beach, Fla. as part of the Wounded Warrior Classic.

Delaware has won three straight overall and six of the last seven in the series. The Retrievers’ last win over Delaware was 13-8 win in 2003.
