After
finishing his playing career in 1997,
Carroll began his coaching career in 1998
at Severn Prep High School in Severna
Park, MD while finishing his undergraduate
studies at Loyola. He moved on to the

assistant coach at NCAA Division I
Washington & Lee College in Lexington,
VA.
While
at Washington & Lee in 1999, he helped
lead the Generals to a record of 13-2 and
a berth in the NCAA quarterfinals. The
Generals won the Old Dominion Athletic
Conference title with a 6-0 mark and led
the nation in scoring defense at 5.2 goals
allowed per game. Washington & Lee
ended the season ranked No. 2 in the USILA
