Former
Hofstra University standout Kevin Warne
was named assistant men's lacrosse at the
University of Delaware Jan. 7, 2002. He
begins his fourthseason with the Blue Hen
staff in 2005.
Warne
(pronounced Warn) joined the Blue Hen
staff that includes Shillinglaw, who will
begin his 26th season at the UD helm in
2004, and fifth-year assistant Greg
Carroll.
A native
of Setauket, NY where he was an All-County
performer at Ward Melville High School,
Warne, 26 (5/1/77), moved on Hofstra
University where he earned a degree in
psychology in 2000 and was a standout
defenseman for the Pride men's lacrosse
team under coach John Danowski.
He led
Hofstra to America East titles in 1997 and
1998, earned first team All-America East
honors in both 1998 and 1999, and was
named United States Intercollegiate
Lacrosse Association honorable mention
All-American as a senior in 1999. He also
was named the Defensive Player of the Year
by the Hofstra radio network, WGBB, in
1999.
Following
graduation, he served one season as
assistant boy's lacrosse coach at
Plainview (NY) High School before heading
to NCAA Division III U.S. Merchant Marine
Academy in Kings Point, NY for the
2000-2001 season.
He was
named interim head coach at USMMA after
the third game of the season when head
coach Tom Gill was sidelined with an
illness. Warne led the team to a record of
8-9 and a second place finish in the
Knickerbocker Conference with a 6-1 mark.
The team
also advanced to the ECAC New York-New
Jersey Championship game before falling to
Fairleigh-Dickinson Madison.
He has
also been active coaching at various
summer camps, working at the Four-Star
Lacrosse Camp in Cortland, NY, the Battle
of the Hotbeds Lacrosse Camp at the
University of Delaware, and the Hofstra
University Lacrosse Fundamentals Camp. He
also worked with the U.S. Under 17 squad
in 2000.
He is
single and resides in Newark.
