Bruder Leads UD Men Laxers to 15-13 win over
Butler
INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Senior midfielder Jim
Bruder scored a career- high five goals as the No. 10
ranked University of Delaware men's lacrosse team won its
seventh straight game and continued its best start since
1976 with a 15-13 victory at No. 18 ranked Butler Saturday
afternoon.
Bruder, a senior from Villanova, PA, scored two first
quarter goals and added his final score with 3:03 left to
play to give Delaware some breathing room. The Hens are off
to a 4-0 start, their best start since a 4-0 start in 1976.
The seven straight wins, which includes the final three
games from last season, is the longest since the 1979 team
won a school record 11 straight games. Butler fell to 2-4 on
the season.
Sean Carney added two goals and three assists,
Kevin Lavey and Jason Lavey each dished out
four assists, and John Grant, Ken Carrington,
and Dennis DeBusschere each scored twice to lead the
Blue Hens. The Bulldogs got four goals from Chris Vosburgh
and two goals each from three other players but top player
Cory Kahoun was held to just one goal.
Delaware jumped out to a 4-0 first quarter lead and led
9-4 at halftime. The Hens were up 12-6 after a DeBusschere
goal with 6:18 left in the third quarter, but Butler went on
a furious rally, scoring six straight goals, including two
by Mike Nicolosi, to tie the score at 12-12 with 11:01 left
to play. But Bruder broke the tie with a goal with 8:41
left, Grant scored one minute later, and Bruder scored again
with 3:03 left to put the Hens up 15-12.
Delaware returns to action March 24 at Mt. St.
Mary's.
